Education
AMBA sponsors various educational conferences, workshops, seminars, and tours. It also distributes numerous publications to the malting, brewing and grain trade industries, barley researchers, and barley producers.
KERNEL IDENTIFICATION WORKSHOPS
AMBA sponsors one-day workshops that focus on the utilization of barley variety identification techniques based on kernel morphological differences. Workshops are held biennially in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Fargo, North Dakota.
BARLEY IMPROVEMENT CONFERENCES
AMBA sponsors biennial Barley Improvement Conferences in various locations throughout the US. The Conferences provide barley researchers and malting, brewing and grain trade personnel the opportunity to hear reports on the status of barley research programs and to informally meet and exchange information and ideas.
The first Barley Improvement Conference was held in Milwaukee in 1946. Subsequent Barley Improvement Conferences were continued on an annual basis through 1954 and on a biennial basis starting in 1957.
BARLEY DAYS
AMBA sponsors biennial Barley Days. The last one was held in Minot, North Dakota January 15, 2004. The the first was held January 13, 1958 in Grand Forks, ND. The Barley Days are now jointly sponsored with the North Dakota Barley Council. The meetings are intended to update barley producers in North Dakota and Minnesota on the needs of the malting and brewing industry, USDA farm programs, marketing, new production techniques, progress in malting barley varietal development and other barley research topics. Grower participants are joined by representatives of the malting, brewing, and grain trade industries, as well as university personnel.
