INJURED BY SPROUT WORKSHOPS

The USDA Federal Grain Inspection Service (FGIS) will be conducting a workshop on measuring sprout injury in malting barley on May 13, 2004 in Fargo, ND and on May 26, 2004 in Great Falls, MT. The workshops will be held from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Registration (forms below) must be completed by April 30, 2004 and costs $35. Lunch will be provided.

The USDA/FGIS has developed a new method for measuring sprout injury in malting barley. The "Injured by Sprout" method is modeled after the pearling method commonly used by the grain industry. The AMBA worked closely with the FGIS and participated in collaborative tests to determine the suitability of the method. "Injured by Sprout" will be conducted on malting barley on an as requested basis, but is not an official grading factor and will not be counted as damage in barley grading.
